The Reason
From Winter Solstice to New Years, I reflect on what has been and plan for what is to be. Also, I’m data geek. I keep excel sheets collecting data points from the tarotcast’s cards that each sign gets throughout the year. So, this tarotcast is dedicated to our rearview mirror view of the 2019.
I look at the data in two ways, how many times each card was pulled (for anomalies) and what the actual cards were for each sign (trends). For fun I want to see if the data shows some statistical difference and or trends, and so far, it has. This means that certain cards get pulled outside the average (which this year is 8 times). Now, to be truly scientific I would have to do this for many years and I am only on year four, but let’s see how this works with the data I have so far. (You can see year in review for 2016 , 2017 & 2018). Also, some of you had asked why I include the tarot card’s name. I do this for my readers that want to learn more about tarot, so for you all that just want the trends, skip over the card names.
The Trends
First, the look at general trends: Hint: Look at these trends not only for yourself but also at society in general. This year was the year of Eights, justice. The Eights (action, abandonment, constraints, diligence) were pulled more than any other card. Where the Major Arcane cards (karmic energy) were pulled the least. Though the one card that was pulled the most was the Ace of Swords.
This card’s domain is in thinking, new ideas, and calls for action. And when you add these two themes up, they correlate in the world as all the protests asking for a change in thought, for justice and economic reasons. Ex: world-wide climate change strikes with the youth leading the pack, Hong Kong students protest for democracy, Israel’s protest demanding Netanyahu’s resignation, Ethiopian Jews protest for killing by police, Chilean protest, Barcelona, Colombia, Iran, Ecuador indigenous and students protest, etc… (Most of these are from this summer to now).
Second, I look at the lowest pulls for the year, the Higher Arcane cards, as places where we did not have enough support from the universe. The Higher Arcane as a whole are the cards that support major change and karma. And then specifically drilling down the lowest cards were: Temperance (card of moderation and integration), the Tower (change created by an outside source) and the Star (healing).
These examples play out in society by bipartisanship of the political sphere in the US and UK, India’s anti-Muslim law, the UK leaving the EU. When Temperance is not present, we tend to swing either one way or the other and the middle path is hard to find. Also, one would think that not seeing the Tower card, the card of chaos and destruction would be a good thing. However, without the power of shaking down what isn’t working change takes a longer and more grueling path and one where we are in charge of creating change. Then when you add the card of Healing not lending a hand the feelings get stepped on and rifts widen.
Overall, when you add these card in combination, the universe is taking away its crutch of Fate and taking care of our messes. The universe is leaving it up to us to take action, to find new ways to communicate, and put forth new ideas to help with our constraints, feelings of abandonment and our differences. 2019 showed us, like no other year in the industrial era, how divided we are and that we all will need to participate, listen and find compromise to heal and evolve.
Lastly, for your individual signs I look at the card trends just within your sign’s tarotcast below.

Aries
This year compared to other signs was the bumpiest year energetically. (Average was 11 cards you got 18). Though the year started out slow, it gained speed by March and hasn’t stopped since. Your main theme this year, was change then build/create. You did this with 3 cycles of the Chariot card coming 3 times and the Empress or Emperor following. And since that change was solely in your hands, your Will to get things done created all the movement in your life. You had one respite in the months of July and August where you had time to catch your breath and focus on details instead of big picture. Though during that time you had 2 knight cards that continued the theme of change but with a more practical application. So in your reflection look back and see what places you made the change and progressed.
Taurus

In looking back 2019 started out very slow with your head down in practical matters. Then comes you birth month and your karmic moments haven’t stop since. You like Aries above had the Chariot card dominate, the card of change directed solely by you, but where they had it a bit more spread out your change was clumped around the ending of summer and beginning of fall. You also had the Emperor card and 5 King cards thorough out the year. All these cards represent building on what is already there. So overall this was a year to focus on making change happen and build upon structures and projects that where already in motion. So in your reflection look for projects that you have made significant progress on.
Gemini
Overall your year was average in big themes, people and beginings/endings. However, this year was literally the year of ups and downs. You would have two karmic cards, high energy, to deal with, and then a month or two with your head either in the sand or buried in detail. Even your karmic energy was supporting you to pull away from society with the Hermit card dispersed throughout 2019. Hopefully you spent some of this time gathering wool of a bigger perspective about how to live your life going forward and what is your purpose. In your reflection look to places you have gained a wider or more holistic perspective on.
Cancer
This year overall was average in comparison to other signs. However, karmically you started out the year with a bang and since your birthday it has been karmic point after karmic point to deal with. Also, this year you had six “9” cards. Nines are cards of preparation and signs that change is coming for the better. So, though you see glimpses of a better future, 2019 was spent working towards it. In your reflection look at all the work you have done while pondering what can be produced from it.
Leo
This year started out pretty slow. With your focus on getting things completed and starting up new projects. When you look at the average number of karmic energy cards, your sign has one of the lowest. But this big theme energy started in July, and is cramming it all in until the end of the year. While you are still trying to create the new. As sun babies you all like to particularly hibernate in the winter, but winter is calling, and you are answering it. In your reflection see all that you have accomplished and all that you have begun.
Virgo
This year’s theme was finding balance especially around your emotions. The Moon card (the card of the subconscious, things hidden and emotions) showed up evenly at each changing of the seasons. Then Temperance (card of moderation) followed quickly thereafter. So at least for the first two-thirds of the year your lessons of balance and moderation turned inward. Then in October the energy shifted from inward to outward. The World card (opportunities outside of one’s self) followed your last internal journey with the Moon. In between these big shifts you also had more “6s” than other signs. Sixes represent finding ways to harmonize your mind, heart and spirt, and that small acts of karma, good or bad, reverberated through out the year. In your reflection focus on where lie your balances and imbalances.
Libra
For Libras this was a particularly low energy year. Compared to the other signs you have a below average year for having to deal with Karma, people and change. However, you also had the most Aces (new beginnings). This year had the potential to be a place where you started new relationships, projects, ideas, and investigated your purpose. To help you plant you had the most Queens than any other sign. Which is like having a green thumb in all areas of life. Your theme for 2019 was seeding creation. In your reflection see the garden you have planted.
Scorpio

This year was a high energy year for you. You had above average Higher Arcane cards (karma energy) in comparison to the other signs. In 2019, you had a vast amount of energy to create change in a variety of aspects of your life. Except for January, there wasn’t one month that didn’t bring one or two big things for you to look at or deal with. The challenge and the blessing of that is you got to focus on aspects of the big questions of life. Who am I, and why am I here? Also, you all are the most gregarious of the water signs, but this year you let in few people. It was more about quality then quantity. In your reflection see the answers you have gathered in answering Who am I and Why am I here.
Sagittarius
Unlike 2018 where you all had the highest number of karmic cards-big themes (17 the average was 13), you had an average amount of karmic energy, people, beginnings and endings throughout the year. The interesting trend is that you took on two big ideas each season and worked on them before moving to the next. And within that focus and season, you dealt with one of the “5” cards. They represent chaos in each suit (thought/communication, material/wealth, spirit/purpose, emotions/love). So, though it was an “average” feeling year the trend of 2019 was finding ways in which to work through chaos or with it. In your reflection see the ways that you have made your life have more ease.
Capricorn
You had an average year compared to other signs within the realms of big themes and beginnings. You were the only sign that had no “10s” which are the completion cards. To add, you had six queens showing up about every two months having you focus on creation and comfort. 2019 you seem more focus on creation the completion. And with that, out of all the signs, you also had the most court cards. This means this year was a people year. So, though it was “average” you spent your time wisely connecting with friends and family and creating a personal life that is full of fun, savory-ness and a sense of home. In your reflection see the people that you love.
Aquarius
Though you had the average amount of higher arcane cards (karmic or big energy themes), people, beginnings and endings. You had the pairing of Justice and Judgement three times. This means that this year’s big trends where about equality/fairness, epiphanies and rebirth. Also, you had the most knight cards out of the signs. So even though you had the average amount of karmic energy, you had a year where you didn’t stop moving. The challenge with 2019 was did you give yourself enough time to do some big thinking around fairness and the progress you have made towards your rebirth? Or is it possible, you learned that by keeping on the move and the air beneath your wings made the path easier towards your awakening? In your reflection see how far you have flown.
Pisces
Where 2018 you had an average amount big trends, this year you are one of three signs that had the least. And they were evenly dispersed throughout the year. You also fell within the average of new beginnings, endings and people in your life. So this year might have had the feeling of being blah; however, you all had the most pages then any sign. They started marching in right after your birth-month. Pages are the cards of learning within each suit, and you covered each suit: emotions, work, ideas, and purpose. This was a learning experience year, or I would like to call it – Your Year of the Sponge. 2019 was about absorbing new information and seeing the world with a new set of eyes. In your reflection look back and seeing all that you have learned.
May light be on you, around you, and within you,
Nina

*Wheel of Fortune – The Wheel of Fortune is the card of luck. Events, people and things will come to you this week that have the potential to change your fortune. However, there is only one challenge or aspect you can control when this card shows up and that is stepping up to the wheel to spin. The more often and wider variety of places the better your odds. This looks as simple as buy some lotto tickets, getting your self out there in the dating scene, or sending out resumes to a wide variety of jobs or places you are interested in moving to. You never know when lady luck wants to show up, but you need to step out of your comfort zone to meet her.
*Sun – When the Sun card comes, it shines an intentional light on you – wanting you to grow. The Sun gives you the energy to use, but you will need to focus it. So, the question it asks is: What do you want to cultivate in your life? Once you have decided where to aim your beam, the challenge becomes being aware of what intensity of energy each project needs. i.e. Lasers cut, ambient light comforts. This is an important test for you bulls, because when you fixate on what you want your touch can be heavy handed.
Page of Swords – This card advises you that the truth needs to be ferreted out this week. The Page of Swords shows up when you need to put on your detective hat and do some inquiry. Nothing is as it seems on the surface, but with some questioning and reading between the lines problems and their solutions can be found.
Ten of Cups – When the Ten of Cups shows up it is time to see your accomplishments especially on the how you have been dealing on the emotional and relationship fronts. This moment in time is the cumulation of hard-earned heart work. Take this week to revel in how far you have come and enjoy the bit of sanctuary that you have accomplished.
Knight of Swords – Last week, you were back on the karmic roller coaster. The Wheel of Fortune card advising you to take chances leading to lessons and profitability in the long game. This week is a 180 degree turn of energy. Last week was about taking chances. This week’s card, though your environment might egg you on to be daring, advises you to slow your roll, think before acting and look both ways while crossing the street. Be physical careful of your appendages. Watch where you walk and watch your knife when prepping food.
*World – Wow another karma card that’s three in a row. The last two weeks the Moon had you taking a deep dive into your subconscious finding pearls of wisdom. Then Justice continued the theme of behind the scenes with ideas, communications and decisions. Having you look for the reasons behind the facts to help you with decision making. And now the World card has arrived. It is the supreme card of new opportunities. This is a great week to try out new places, prospects, and people. This week represents a turning point from the past to a brighter future. The challenge with this card is discovering these new terrains. The lesson is, though you can walk through a new door, you do not have to commit until you try as many doors as you want. This can look as simple as continuing dating even though you found a nice person to hang with or continuing to the job hunt even though you have found a good job. You never know what is out there unless you open as many doors as possible.
Six of Cups– This is your second Six, so sixes are about readjusting. Last week the Six of Swords advised you to re-balance by taking a little respite from your daily life. This week the Six of Cups is about balancing the past with your present. There is some unsettled history that will re-surge. However, now is time to resolve these issues so you can move on. The challenge is seeing the growth that you have gained despite the past.
Seven of Wands – This birth year will be kinda of a Rosa Parks year for you. The Seven of Wands forecast your lessons will be around standing up for yourself and/or some worthwhile cause. The challenge is you feeling not confident and vulnerable. This year will test your resolve to be the change you want to see in the world, however, you are ready for this task.
Eight of Coins – The last couple of weeks have had some high energy fluxes. First the High Priestess having you looking to synchronicities for guidance, texts for knowledge, and your soul for cyclic behavior. And then the Lovers continuing the theme of cooperation with the Universe and with other living beings. This week, which is also the beginning of your summation month for your birth year, the card of mastery shows up. So, with all that you have learned the past couple of weeks it is time to apply it to your “work.” To become a master at any skill, it takes the total effort of your: heart, mind, and soul working together in tandem. ―
Five of Wands – Hmm your second five. Fives are the cards of chaos. Last week, the Five of Coins foretold the physical plane could cause disarray to your plans. And this week the Five of Wands foretells that people’s chaos can spin into your world. The only plans of action, when seeing the whirling dervish coming towards you, is decide whether to sidestep it or dance with it. Hint: They say the best way to do the whirling dervish is keep your arms open. Your right arm directed to the sky, ready to receive the universes beneficence, focus your gaze on your left hand turned toward the earth to ground you and spin.
Knight of Swords – Last week the Strength card showed you that one of your true strengths comes from your resilience. And then it advised you to contemplate on your superpowers and their corresponding kryptonite. If you did this exercise, then this week will barely phase you. However, if you didn’t, your kryptonite will show up with you unawares. The best way to work with this energy is slow down, watch where you are going and think before you act.
Four of Cups – This week has a melancholy feel to it. This can send you inward to your safe space, and that is a fine place to stay for part of the time. This reflection will show you “the why” of your quagmire. The challenge however is you will only find the solutions if you look outside of yourself.
*Magician –Last week the Sun card lent its energy to make you and what you focus on grow and expand. Now the Magician takes the Wand supporting you on manifesting skills. This card foretells that the power is your hands to create the divine onto this earthly plane. This can look as simple as, your goal was to be a better cook last week you looked over cookbooks and found that baking was the thing. This week you practice baking pies until you make one that would make your great great grandmother proud. Or this can be as complex as you deciding to start your own business and this week you write up your mission statement.
Eight of Swords – The Eight of Swords has you looking at what is holding you back. This week the best use of your time is to find out why, what or who is part of your inertia, realizing why you have been holding on to these chains of the past, and then letting them go.
Four of Swords – The Four of Swords advises that you need to rest this week. This card shows up when your energy/immune system is being drained, but you are not aware of it. The best way to handle this card is eat well, take your vitamins, get 8 hours of sleep, and avoid energy vampires.
Eight of Wands – The Eight of Wands foretells a plethora of information is coming at you. The challenge is trying to process it all. There are two ways to work with this energy. Either funnel it with a focus in mind or take everything in and prioritize next week. The key is eyes, ears and mind open.
Queen of Cups – The last three weeks were full of energy. First, the Justice card came pointing out decisions that needed to be made but you needed more background information to make a justified decision. The Devil card challenged your morality, integrity and purpose. Then Judgement pronounces it is time to act and evolve to the next level. With the Eight of Coins advising you to up your game by honing your skills to mastery. Finally, this week you can relax with the Queen of Cups. She helps you find the fun in your life. Take this week to enjoy your friends, family and/or the solitude of a good book. Your motto: Live and Love
*Moon – The Moon, the card of emotions and subconscious, calls to you this week. This card comes to tell you something is hidden from you. The best use of this energy is taking a deep dive in to your subconscious. When you do this exercise, you can find pearls of wisdom. These gifts help you sync up with your intuition, purpose and the universe’s flow. The challenge this week is getting lost in contemplation without a guiding light. This light can be as simple as finding the positive within the dark or as complex as finding the dark within the light. Your motto: all things in the shadow are not bad but they are relevant.
Ace of Cups – The Ace of Cups is another perfect birthday month card. This is your second Ace for your birthday month so this coming year will be perfect for new beginnings. Also, though your cards were all minor (this means no big karma for you this year) they stayed in the realm of the material and emotional plane. The Ace of Cups this week added that this coming year is a place where new relationships and love will prosper and grow. The work with this card and the year is about how you feel in your skin and life. The key to success with these four cards is making decisions and plans by how you want to feel in the physical world. So, if something doesn’t feel right then it isn’t in the cards for your divine life. This is challenging for you as an air sign because you usually judge things with your mind, but 2020 is all about feeling how you walk on this Earth.
Ten of Coins – Last week the Hanged Man advised contemplating before moving forward and helped with this process by making your surroundings inert, or at least feel like moving through molasses. The Ten of Coins is a 180 degree turn of energy. Where the Hanged Man wanted you to contemplate the Ten of Coins wants you to complete. This is a perfect week to finish up projects already in process. The challenge is not starting anything new but taking time to enjoy the finished product.
*High Priestess – The High Priestess brings the energy of the sacred, knowledge of the ancients and a broad perspective for interpreting cycles. This week look to synchronicities for guidance, texts for knowledge, and your soul for cyclic behavior. By doing this you become more sync with your divine purpose and the Universe’s helping hands. This is a great week to ask your guides for messages. This can be as simple as seeing a black bird meaning stop, look and listen, for there are clues and messages for you. Or this can be as complex as looking to your ancestors for family cycles of behavior that need to be purified.
Knight of Wands – The Knight of Wands is telling you: you are in the right place at the right time. When this Knight shows up, look around and know that everything around you right now is here for your enlightenment. Your challenge is to grasp it.
Nine of Wands – The Nine of Wands portends that preparation is key this week. So, before you leave the house make sure you have everything you need. Before you go into a meeting look over your notes/agenda. The more prepared you are the easier your week will flow.
To all of you in the Bahamas and on the East Coast, may you find refuge and be safe.

Knight of Swords – Last week the Page advised finding out more information before moving forward. Now with that information, the Knight of Swords pronounces moving ahead but taking your time thinking before action. This is a week to slow down in general for you will miss vital information or missteps. This card’s practical application also warns, watch out that you don’t hurt your extremities. Look both ways when you cross the street. Curl your fingers in when you cut veggies and be careful when you are walking.
*High Priestess – Last week the Chariot, card of change that you are sole responsible for, pulled up to give you another chance to make transformations happen around areas that you want to alter. Now the High Priestess shows up advising that you need to do some deep reference work on the how and why of your changes. The great thing about this card is, if you ask for signs from the heavens, she can scry you some answers either in your dreams, synchronicities or in deep contemplation. This can look as simple as you need a new plumber for that drip in your bathroom sink, you see a black cat in the window, then you google a plumber near you and see one named Black Cat Plumbing. Or as complex as doing dream work with your desires. Motto: Insight and inspiration comes from many sources.
*Hanged Man – Last week, the Devil card came to test you on who you are and what you stand for. This week the Hanged Man keeps you in a purgatory like state to let you contemplate how you were triggered last week. You need to see the patterns and/or places that are working against you. You can blame your failure on others, or you can see that maybe the game you have willingly played is rigged. Time to figure out what really is important in your life and how you want to be seen in the world. Take this week to center back to who you really are.
Eight of Swords – Your thoughts get in your way this week. The Eight of Swords advises to stop over analyzing a situation. If you let old thought patterns go, you will make room for feelings that are more helpful then harmful.
Ace of Wands – Last week you all got your first big card for your birth-year, the Strength card. This card comes to help you ground yourself and acknowledge your resilience, self-compassion, and mental acuity. By 2020’s birthday you will feel more comfortable in you own skin. This week, the Ace of Wands joins the Strength Card having you strike the match to create passion in your life. This year has the potential for new beginnings. The question for you to answer is what is your deep desire? Then write it on a scrap of paper and burn it on the Virgo moon, August 28th or 29th. And then let the Universe finds ways to gift it to you in the coming year.
Page of Cups – Time to get out your rose-colored glasses. The Page of Cups advises to look at the events and people in your life this week with compassion and empathy. Everyone needs a little love. The challenge with this card is being vulnerable enough to receive the love back.
Six of Wands – The Six of Wands is the card of victory. Take this week to see all that you have accomplished and pat yourself on the back. The only challenge with this card is even though you deserve this break and win, be aware that the battle is not yet totally won.
*The Magician – The Magician is the card of bringing the divine down into the material plane. It is a great week to create! This can look as simple as making an exquisite meal that delights the senses. Or as complex as writing the next great novel. Then only challenge with this card is that your creation must have meaning behind. This is not a week for mundane chores and to-do list. If you reach with a higher purpose you will be able to grasp the brass ring.
Page of Wands – The Page of Wands comes when you need to create or live with a flourish of passion. This card shows up to re-ignite your purpose and enhance your innovation. If you are not vibing with this energy or your muse has gone on vacation. Time to immerse your self in the arts, music or nature to realign yourself with your passion.
Two of Coins – This week can get out of balance. The challenge is figure out what you need to do to stop your internal and/or external vertigo. This card suggests juggling one thing well before picking up another. Or even better, don’t multitask at all this week.
Queen of Wands – Last week the Tower, card of change coming from an outside source, shook up something that was not working. But if you were proactive in initiating the change, the Tower promised it would lessen the blow. So, if you did nothing and shit hit the fan, the Queen of Wands advises to use your intuition to help clean up the mess this week. If you did initiate the change, then she helps by staking out the easier path with the breadcrumbs of synchronicities. Making you surer of the path you are now on and more instinctive with every step. Either way your Spidey Sense is key this week.
The idiom stop and smell the roses advises us to slow down and enjoy the finer things in life. This week’s artist,
Ace of Swords – This is a great week for communication and decision making. The Ace of Swords brings new beginnings in the land of communication and information. If you can keep your mind open and sharp you can discover new pathways for thought and ideas. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in. Isaac Asimov
*The Chariot – The Chariot is the card of Change. This is a great week to start a journey, travel, and/or move along projects. In other words, it is a great week to make things happen to change things that you want to alter. The only issue with this card is to make this transformation happen it is all up to you. No outside force will swoop into help. This train is run solo by the power of your engines, but don’t worry you will have the energy to power this modification. PS on a practical note this card does have you literally check your means of transportation before setting off – check tire pressure, gas, make sure your shoes are appropriate, check your tickets etc…
Seven of Swords – The Seven of Swords is the card of small victories. This week you will have a surfeit of small successes. The only challenge with this card is that though you come out victorious there is more to be won in the near future. So, save some of your resources this week for the battles to come.
*Empress – The Empress represents the Goddess of Growth and Abundance. This is a great week to plant seeds for growth you want to see happen in 10 months’ time. The big questions this card has you answer this week are: What do you want to grow? How will you sustain that growth for the next 10 months? Does this growth have an aspect to help others? And if this growth doesn’t happen what is your plan B.
Nine of Swords – Okay Leos, what’s up this is your birthday month and this week you are letting worry play outdated sad songs for your party. This is where that Hierophant that showed up two weeks ago can help. First sort through your worries and only pick out which ones have a possible solution. Second dump what is left over, for they are not worth your Leonian gaze. Lastly, take those workable worries and set up structures and timelines (starting next week) to take them from worrying nightmares to doable to-do list items.
Five of Wands and Four of Swords – Chaos is in the air this week with the Five of Wands showing up. So, you as always have a choice jump into it or walk around it. However, the Four of Swords advises that you walk around it or even better turn around and walk away from it. If you do decide to jump in- take your vitamins and make sure you get lots of sleep because your immune system will be taxed.
Ace of Wands – Ace of Wands is the card of passion and all things that light up our lives – bring us awe. This is a great week for any kind of beginning – projects, relationships, roads, experiences. The only caveat is that the things you focus on this week must bring or ignite some zing in your life. Otherwise, why are you doing it?
Knight of Wands – All Knights foretell that travel is good for this week. And the Knight of Wands loves it when you travel to events or places that bring awe into your life. This card also comes when you are on the right path doing the right thing. So, keep on keeping on and try taking to the road and letting your soul pick the place.
Eight of Wands – The Eight of Wands foretells that whatever you focus on this week will hit the mark. This is a great week to send out correspondence or PR – it will be well received. It is also a great time to open conversation that normally are not easy to discuss – they will play out with ease and balance out power struggles. Or a great time sending out wishes for they will come true. The only thing to be cautious about is if your goal is not clear then your outcome may not be what you were aiming for.
Queen of Cups – The Queen of Cups is the card of fun and parties. This is a great week to celebrate your halfway point of your birth year. Take this time viewing all that has happened since your last birthday. I sure you will find a few things to celebrate about. Therefore, take this week off and raise your glass to yourself, what you have accomplished and to the prospects of the next 6 months.
Four of Swords – After last week’s Moon card, where you felt a little lost and moody, the Four of Swords advises you to take this week to rest and build up your immune system. When this card shows up you are fooling yourself that you are fine or bad-ass enough that this week’s stresses won’t get to you. This card highly suggests that bed-rest and vitamins are vital. You are running on fumes and you need this week to recharge.
Page of Swords and Ace of Pentacles – The Page of Swords is the card of information gathering and the Ace of Pentacles is the card of new material beginnings. Together they mean that this is a great week to start new projects that are on the material plane. Any projects you start will bring money in the future. However, the Page of Swords also says to start this project you need more information that maybe behind the scenes. The best way to work with this Page is, before you start this project, ask questions and listen to the answers with open ears and mind for something is not exactly as logical as it would seem.
