Tarotcast for week of January 22, 2017

Every day, Art breaks the barrier of a human life span. Artists like Frida Khalo or Diane Arbus continue to speak and influence through their artwork. The Venus of Berekhat Ram, pictured above, is the second prehistoric sculpture discovered. It with the Venus of Tan Tan are the “first” sculptural art works dating between 230,000 to 700,000 years ago. Both were likely made by our ancestral cousins Homo erectus and both are of the female form.

Art is defined as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” These archeological findings let us view art done by species of hominids that no longer exist. They are communicating what they saw as beauty and conveying emotion through time and this blows my mind.

Why did they do art? This ancestral artist was it male or female? Does that make a difference to what they were trying to convey? These are important questions because I bet the majority of you thought “male artist.” I know I did, but why? This is a different species. We can only guess but we will never really know. These assumption should be carefully looked at for bias and if they are holding us back today. Seven hundred thousand years from now, what will our art say to the next species that roams this Earth, and will they ask the same questions?

Below in honor of women, I have attached some female contemporary artists that may or may not align with your tarotcast.

P.S. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you.

Louisa Gagliardi

Aries – Five of Pentacles – Last week The Hierophant suggested that your resolutions be around things that add structure to your life and belief systems. This week the Five of Pentacles – frustration and a sense of loss- is here to help you define where you need this structure or the broken parts of your belief system. Your environment is setting up obstacles this week to focus you on your true wants and needs, so they can be fixed. But, be careful with this card, don’t make little obstacles or losses bigger than what they are.

Taurus – Three of Cups – The Fool’s motto mindfulness with humor continues this week with the Three of Cups- friendship. The Three of Cups suggest that you grab a glass of wine, beer or tea and spend some time hanging with your best friends. Your soul is needing the camaraderie and joy that only friendship can bring.

Firielei Baez

Gemini – Seven of Wands – This week it will be hard to maintain your focus. Your environment will be throwing you curve balls. The challenge with this card is knowing when to catch, duck or ignore the problems. The Seven of Wands advice is keep your eyes focused on your goals and keep walking.

Anna Bjerger

*Cancer – Judgment and Ten of Swords – The High Priestess lesson last week asked you go inward to gain sel- knowledge. This week another big card builds on top of what you have learned. Judgment represents a realization that you need to live a life that is more aligned with who you are and your “calling.” The challenge with this card is making the life-changing decisions using a blend of logic and intuition. The Ten of Swords is warning you to stop mistrusting your intuition in this equation. This can look as simple as finally painting your living room that color you have always wanted or as complex as finally quitting that job that is killing your soul.

Tschabalala

*Leo – Wheel of Fortune – Wow Leo, What’s up? This is your third big card this year already. You started with The Fool cleaning the slate and having you ask yourself Who am I? Then the Chariot telling you to grab the reins and say Yes. And now the Wheel of Fortune which is the big karma card of the tarot. The Universe is giving you a turn at the wheel of fortune to change your life. Simply this can look like buying a lotto ticket or complex as sending out your resume to your dream job. The challenge being to focus on playing the game not on winning or losing

Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum

*Virgo – Justice – Justice’s motto for you is all things will end up fair in the end. The Universe will impart messages to you around the issue of fairness and the timing of justice. The lesson of this card cannot be better said then by this quote by Martin Luther King Jr.: The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.

Nina Chanel Abney

Libra – Ten of Swords and Eight of Wands – So the first card Ten of Swords warns you that you will need to hone and listen to your intuition to avoid social potholes this week. Then the Eight of Wands shows up to tell you how to see or actually hear those potholes before you hit them. The Eight of Wands says the most important thing you can do is to Listen! You will learn more this week if you keep your ears open and your mouth shut.

Alejandra Hernández

*Scorpio – The Empress – Last week, The Tower’s energy came to shake things up and breaking down old structures. Now, The Empress strolls in to help rebuild and grow your new surroundings with a more organic and natural touch. This week, The Empress hands you seeds and a watering can. She is metaphorically asking you to create more garden less concrete.

Jordan Casteel

Sagittarius – Ace of Pentacles – The word for this week is do. The Universe uses the Ace of Pentacles to grease your wheels. Things should work in your favor this week as long as you keep a hands on approach. This is a great week to start new projects, buy new tools/equipment, or even start new work related partnerships.

Samam Khatibi

*Capricorn – Devil – The Trickster has returned. The Devil is one of your Capricorn cards for life. So let’s go deep into the land of illusion, temptation and materialism. I’m going to get a little Buddhist on this one and talk about detachment or actually attachment. You all are smart enough to see that the world is an illusion created by thoughts, temptation is really about control, and materialism is really ego. This week the universe will be showing you where you have become overly attached around one or all three of these areas. And don’t forget the Devil likes to investigate with a wry sense of humor, so these lessons can come in the form of jokes, puns, or satire.

Amy Sherald

Aquarius – Four of Pentacles – This week is going to feel hectic and hurried. The best way to get through is to be aware of where you are spending your resources. Take the advice of Benjamin Franklin, an ounce of preparation is worth a pound of cure.

Jesse Mockrin

Pisces – Ace of Cups – The word for this card is emotion. The Ace of Cups ask you how do you want your heart to feel a year from now? Do you want it to be more open? more ready? more forgiving? stronger? The Universe is telling you this is the week to start growing those feelings into reality.

May light be on you, around you, and within you,

Nina
