Tarotcast for Week of October 15, 2017

Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak’s book Where the Wild Things Are started my love and fascination with monsters. This book has only 330 words, yet it is so complex in its ideas. It is takes us into and through the realm of anger, loneliness and fear. Max shows us how to use imaginations to confront fear and combat loneliness, and the book’s conclusion teaches emotional self regulation when Max decides to come home. These are deep emotions to cover in 330 words, so Maurice conveys another layer through his illustrations.

His illustration choices are subtle yet convey a deeper subtext. For example see above, how Max’s posture and his eyes closed show his ecstasy and abandonment and how  Wild Thing One’s posture mimics his. This picture shows W.T. One at the head of this “merry” band; however, W.T. One’s glance back to Max reminding us that Max is the true leader, for he has conjured up this world.  And you can see all the monsters show a facet of Max’s emotions.

Below are more illustrations of Mr. Sendak from Tolstoy, the Hobbit, Brothers Grimm etc… I challenge you to examine his illustrations –  find the complexity of emotion he conjures up with the subtleness of his illustration choices.  I think you will find just like in Max’s world, they show us parts of ourselves.

P.S. Please support your local artists this holiday season. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you.  Funny interview with Stephen Colbert and Maurice Sendak

Tarotcast for Week of October 8, 2017

Christine Morren’s art conjures up fairytales, fantasies and feelings of fall for me. It might be the color palette she chooses that remind me of autumn landscapes. Or the blurry silhouettes of her subjects that remind me of the foggy fall mornings. Or that her more humanoid subjects’ eyes are as crisp as a autumn wind. Or maybe it is because her images remind me of the paradox of autumn memories. The fun of frolicking in a pile of autumn leaves, and that associated smell of autumn is also one of earthy decay.

P.S. Please support your local artists this holiday season.  Also I have a new tarot reading offer, Planetary Tarot Reading , for those of you that have had an Astrological Tarot Reading.  Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you.

Christine Morren*Aries – Magician – The Magician ‘s lesson is self-confidence. You got this week under your control. The only challenge is, as you power through this week -doing your thing, to be aware and respectful of the people on this journey with you.

Taurus – Knight of Cups – The Knight of Cups continues the theme of expressing your emotions that the Moon challenged you with last week (not to mention the Full Moon in Aries that occurred ). The Knight of Cups warrants you to keep the emotions flowing. The more you wear your heart on your sleeve the more your love ones can help you shore up and replenish your emotional well. The challenge is communicating these emotions, so they are heard.

Monsters of Bomarzo

Happy Birthday Month Libras.

Above is a picture of the Pegasus sculpture in the park called Monsters of Bomarzo in Lazio, Italy. In 1552, Prince Pier Francesco Orsini commissioned architect Pirro Ligorio to design the gardens and Simone Moschino to sculpt the “monsters”. The garden was born as the “Villa of Wonders” to be one of a kind a journey through mythology and fantasy. However, the death of the Prince’s wife, Giulia Farnese, change the tone of parts of the garden.

During the 1800’s until 1954 the park became overgrown and faded into obscurity until Giovanni Bettini and Tina Severi bought the property and spent the next twenty years restoring it. He and Tina’s tombs now occupy the Temple of Eternity the memorial building for Giulia Farnese.

I picked this artwork to represent Libra for this park is like Libra’s lessons which represent the precarious balance of love and sadness, beauty and the macabre, life and death… Libra’s mission is to give us hope and lets us perceive that the good usually balances out the bad, but we need both to feel the other.

P.S. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you. I’ve attached a few of the sculptures with each sign.

Monsters of Bomarzo Aries – Queen of Pentacles – The Queen of Pentacles is about enjoying creature comforts this week. Enjoy good food, take bubble baths, relax on couch or hammock and read books, talk with love ones, and take walks during sunset. You have one life with these particulars gifts. This Queen challenges you to partake and enjoy them.

*Taurus – Moon – The Moon and Taurus actually get along pretty well. In astrology having a Taurus Moon is pretty auspicious. This week will be a pretty emotional week, but if you keep yourself grounded you will fare nicely. The challenge with the Moon is to express your emotions. The action of that release will change your mood to the positive like the Moon changes from dark to light.

Tarotcast for Week Of September 24, 2017

Above is a photo of the blue-jeans poisonous dart frog. It is considered one of the ten most poisonous frogs in the world. Poison frogs hold some of the most potent neurotoxins on earth, yet how do they not poison themselves? Scientists are getting closer to the answer. Normally a neurotoxin binds itself to receptors in an animal’s receptors nervous system. This can cause hypertension, seizures and even death. However, scientists have found that the same genetic mutation, in three evolutionarily different frog groups, prevents the toxins from acting on the frogs’ nerve receptors and still allowing regular nerve function. The study of these frogs are helping scientist design drugs that mimic this selective nerve blocker to block pain in humans without blocking other nerve impulses.

I also find them cute and amazingly beautiful. They are tiny mobile abstract paintings of the rainforest.

P.S. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you.

Aries – Knight of Cups – The Knight of Cups’ lesson is about wearing your heart on your sleeve. Though it is great that you are showing more emotion this week, please be careful to whom you are showing it to. The best way to gauge this is to engage only with the people who you can trust.

Taurus – Four of Pentacles – I’m Late, I’m Late for a very important date, is your theme this week if you are not prepared. The Four of Pentacles is about saving time, money, or resources. However, this card represents the dark side of saving. By trying to save time you end up using more resources. By trying to save money you end up using more time. Or, by trying to save resources you end up using more money. This week, don’t cut corners in the long run you will save the outcome of your projects.

Friedrich Schroder Sonnenstern Outsider Art

The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as a painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. The artwork above is by Friedrich Schroder Sonnenstern. He is a representative of Outsider Art or Art Brut. Outsider Art is art done by self taught art makers who have had no contact with the mainstream art world. Jean Dubuffet collected and brought this “raw art” into the mainstream art world and called it the Collection de l’art brut, which is now housed in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Outsider art now encompasses a variety of art forms like Folk Art, Visionary Art, Marginal Art, Naive Art, and Visionary Environments. It is interesting that even though the definition of art is all encompassing. We still try to categorize it, so we can push against the category that becomes the new form and to once again color outside the lines.

P.S. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you. I have attached works of Friedrich which may or may not define your card.

Aries – Four of Wands – The Four of Wands’ lessons are around the paradox of feeling at home while feeling your freedom. This is the challenge of this card feeling at home with your decisions, your life, especially when they are unorthodox at least in the eyes of others. This week work on feeling comfortable and proud when you let your freak flag fly.

Taurus – Ace of Wands – The Ace of Wands proclaims this is a great week to start projects, explore new places, and follow your passions. The only challenge is to be aware that all this energy and enthusiasm you have could plow over the people around you. Remember to share your empathy along with your passion this week.

Tarotcast for September 10, 2017

Hurricane Irma

Hi all,

Hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, fires, tsunamis, floods are devastating. These natural disasters happen to everyone at some point in their lives. Natural Disasters unlike humans do not see borders, countries, or pay attention to “us versus them” controversy. Mother Nature is the great equalizer. These natural “disasters” have both positive and negative effects. Fires make way for new growth, earthquakes make continents, hurricanes spread plant species…

One of the challenges Mother Nature poses to us is to see who we really are or want to be. Disasters bring us the opportunity of choice to be selfish and price gouging those in need or to be world minded and help. Whether you are dealing with one of these disasters now or not, I challenge you to go check on your neighbor, donate to The Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders or even just stop and open the door for someone. Take these disasters as opportunities to show the better side of humanity.

P.S. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you. I wrote and am posting this tarotcast a bit early due to Irma. Love and Light to you all.

Aries – Page of Swords – Page of Swords is telling you to do some investigative work before making a decision or starting a new project. This week’s challenge is to practice the skill of measuring twice so you can cut once.

Taurus – Five of Cups – Last week, the Wheel challenged you to take advantage of a change of fortune in your life. This week the Five of Cups challenges you to let go of what isn’t working and walk away with what you have left. To truly change your fortune you need to leave parts of your past behind.

Tarotcast for the Week of September 3, 2017

Happy Birthday month Virgos!

Jean-Pierre Jeunet birthday is today. I love all of the films that he has, in combination, written and directed.: Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, MicMacs, and The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet. He also did a short film called Foutaises -Things I Like, Things I Hate which I also love.

These movies have a gloomy quality to them which I find to be part of Virgo’s character. However, it is not the darkness that makes these films or people great. It is the contrast of deep themes of death and despair told through absurd and funny vignettes of love and life. This is one of the qualities of Virgo’s dharma to see the suffering but find the beauty, love and laughter that lives along side it. This is even the quality of Virgo’s birth month. The end of summer and the beginning of fall, where autumn portrays death in the beauty of fall colors.

P.S. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you.

Aries – Six of Wands – This week find a stopping point in a project/life. The Six of Wands is challenge you to take a breather before jumping into the next phase. Take some time to pat yourself on the back for all your hard work and the progresses you have made. You deserve it.

*Taurus – Wheel of Fortune – Time to take a turn at the wheel this week. The Wheel challenges you to take advantage of a change of fortune in your life. This can be good or even a bad set of circumstances that can catapult you out of what has been a redundant cycle. The big thing is change is here so grasp the brass ring and get off the carousel.
