Tarot and Art-Cast for week of Feb 25, 2024

Emma Amos
Emma Amos, Head First

The artist this week is Emma Amos. Amos is a painter, printmaker, and textile artist.  Her work often confronted and destabilized the norm of Big A art.  She embraced complex issues of being looked over, not seen, erased from history because of color, gender and even choice of art materials.  She looked at her inner conflict of loving artistic styles of Gauguin or Picasso, the celebrated echelon of white Eurocentric art and her own identity as an artist. In her words: “Every time I think about color it’s a political statement.  It would be a luxury to be white and never have to think about it.”

Your pondering :  How has your race, gender or sexual orientation benefitted and/or hindered your life?

Solar System highlights

The moon begins in Virgo – keeping you organized and focused.   On Tuesday it moves into Libra – harmony and balance are key. On Thursday thru the weekend the moon moves into Scorpio – follow your passion.  Then on Sunday it moves into Sagittarius – find ways to explore.    Then Tuesday, March 5th the moon moves into Capricorn – time to get to work.  On Thursday it moves into Aquarius helping us think outside the box.  And we finish the two weeks on Saturday with the moon in Pisces wanting us to go with the flow.

Venus and Mars are still hanging with Pluto in the water-bearer’s sign.  Aquarius is the sign of social consciousness.  It pushes us to innovate and think about how our actions affect not only our own future but the future of the world.  So, the areas these planets are having us look within the context of making personal and social change is Venus (can I create beauty and harmony not only for myself but for all around me?), Mars (do my actions benefit more than me?) and Pluto (how can I share my power and wealth to the collective?).  So, I suggest pondering at least one of these planets’ questions in the coming weeks.

And then the twist comes with the Sun and Mercury moving into Pisces joining Saturn.  They are asking us how we can be adaptable in how we shine and how we communicate.  This is still a lesson about our influence and place in society.  Just these two are asking us to be more flexible and respondent to the situation and how we react to it.

EXTRA

*** Signs with an * it is a big week for you.  Pisces this is a perfect time to get an Astrological Tarot Reading for your coming year.  And Virgo it is your halfway mark for your birth year, so if you need a Planetary Reading for a check in now is the time. And I have a tip jar if you want to leave a gratuity for the weekly forecasts.

****And I am experimenting again.   I had switched from using the older suits name (pentacles, cups, swords, and wands) to a more elemental way of reading them which is earth, water, air, and fire.  Now I would like to leave the binary and feudal system of the RWS’s court cards.  So, the RWS old version is Page, Knight, Queen, and King is changing to Heart (pure embodiment of element), Body (moving the element), Spirit (living the element) and Mind (taking care of the element).

May light be on you, around you, and within you.

Seven of Water – The Muse of Dreams would like you to find time in the comings weeks to daydream.  And this muse says to dream big.  It is not a guarantee that it will come true in its entirety, but it will lead you to what you need.  As the Stones say:  You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need.”

Body of Earth – The Last two weeks the Muses had you working on building up something in your life.  Now they are giving you the stamina and more time to continue that work.  This Muse reminds you that your pace is an important factor to this process.  This is a lesson on slow and steady wins the race.

*Judgement – The last two weeks the Muse of Forms wanted you to focus on how to innovate your day-to-day structures to give you a strong base. And now with those strong foundations in place you can jump with the Muse of Liberation into a future that is more uplifting and transformative.  Here’s the challenge; if those foundations are clipping your wings, then you need to tweak them until you can soar.  An easy example: less caffeine and more B-vitamins.  And the muses remind you to use the planets’ energy of social consciousness and adaptability to help you in your liberation.

Cancer

Nine of Air – So you have been doing a lot of thinking…. maybe too much.  The Muse of Worry advises the next two weeks to be a crash course on what you can and cannot control and to work on being present.  This muse reminds you that worrying is a useful skill if it actually solves a problem, but many aspects of life are not pre-solvable.  What can make you prepared is to work on making your mind more resilient and flexible.  And realizing that if you’re reading this you already are intelligent and strong-willed enough to survive, so give yourself some credit.

Leo
Flower Sniffer, Emma Amos

Ten of Water – The Muse of Happiness would like you to indulge in some joy these coming weeks.  Yes, there is work to be done and yes tomorrow is looming.  But also look around, you are surrounded by good things and now is the time to feed those aspects.  Pay attention to the beauty of living.  Enjoy the sun coming through the window, running in the rain, hugging your family and friends, laughter, good food, music…

Virgo
Tightrope, Emma Amos

Eight of Earth – The Muse of Craft is working with you these coming two weeks to elevate your work practices.  This could be working on your organization skills, taking a class, or practicing scales in music.   They key is you have superpowers now is the time to super charge them.

Libra
Seated Figure and Nude, Emma Amos

Ten of Earth – The Muse of Family asks you to reconnect with yours in the coming weeks.  This does not have to be your blood relatives, but people that make you feel grounded and supported.  The muses are asking you to deepen the roots with those people in your life.  This is a great time to reminisce and acknowledge yourself and each other how far you all have come.

Scorpio
All I Know of Wonder, Emma Amos

*Emperor – The Muse of Realization prompts you to build something.  The key is this work needs to be done on something already in process or something that was put on the back burner.  Now is the time to dust it off and get it to the next level. And remember to use those planet energies of how does it benefit not only you but others and/or has does it improve adaptability or is it adaptable to more than one scenario?

Sagittarius

*Tower – The Muse of Deconstruction is here to have you acknowledge what isn’t working for you and correct it; before an outside force deconstructs it for you.  Now the planets are throwing in a challenge and hints to these re-designs.  Making it so it helps you but also lifts others and/or it utilizes the concept of adaptability. This Muse suggests studying and incorporating the properties of bamboo: durability, flexibility, strength, and versatility.

Capricorn
Two Standing Women, Emma Amos

Three of Earth – For the next two weeks the muses would like you to reflect on the concept of collaboration.  Collaboration is when two or more things work to obtain the same goal.   This is not just human focused but also looking at how trees collaborate with their environment, how your pet collaborates with you or how bees collaborate in a hive. The planets are helping by adding how does what you do resonate with society as a whole and how does collaboration increase adaptability?

Aquarius
Targets, Emma Amos

*Chariot – The Muse of Momentum comes to help an aspect of your life along.  For the next two weeks, she will help you with the proverbial gas and vehicle, but you will have to work on the roadmap. So, she asks you what is your goal?  What is the timeline?  What provisions do you need for an ease passage?  Now you have two weeks to work on this “map” but the sooner you get things prepped the sooner you can hit the gas and go.   On a very practical side check your tires, and make sure you wear the right kind of footwear for each occasion.

Pisces
Worksuit, Emma Amos

Seven of Earth – The next two weeks will require some head-down hard work.  The beauty of this is if you do the work now in two weeks you will be able to relax a bit and enjoy the harvest.  The Muse of Work advises navigating this period with more ease by having a designated stop time each day and like last weeks’ muse advice, preparation is key.  So, this means strict boundaries around your work time as well as rest time.  You need to focus fully on both, and you have a finite amount of energy and time each day.  So, this Muse also suggests turning away from social media, news, and mind-numbing activities during this time.

Tarot and Art-Cast for week of April 30, 2023

Kenojuak Ashevak
Kenojuak Ashevak

The artist this week is Kenojuak Ashevak.  Ashevak’s creative focus was vast: sculpture, engraving, painting, drawing, beadwork, sewing and design.  However, she is best known for her graphic prints where she joins her skills of carving, drawing, and printing.  As Ashevak explains, “There is no word for art.  We say it is to transfer something from the real to the unreal.”  Ashevak pulls the images of animals, humans, and spirits from her living world and transfers them to a non-living phase.  However, Ashevak’s work by her choice of color and flourish seems to bridge the concepts of real and unreal.  We see life, movement, and vividness in her work.

In Innuit culture “art” was usually conjoined with function.  However, Ashevak was an outlier.   Even though she used her work to help her family finically that aligned with the functionality of art in her culture, she also promoted art for art’s sake.

“I just take these things out of my thoughts and out of my imagination, and I don’t really give any weight to the idea of its being an image of something….  I am just concentrating on placing it down on paper in a way that is pleasing to my own eye, whether it has anything to do with subjective reality or not.  And that is how I have always tried to make my images, and that is still how I do it, and I haven’t really thought about it any other way than that.  That is just my style and is the way I started and the way I am today.”

This concept of allowing ourselves to engage in non-judgmental, non-goal-oriented pleasure, i.e. play, is a skill a focus we all should incorporate into our lives at any age.

Your pondering for the week:  Drop your self judgement and allow your imagination to just play.  See what comes from it.

Solar System highlights

The moon begins in Virgo so a pleasant organize way to start the week. On Tuesday it moves into Libra – where harmony and relationships come to the forefront.   Then on Friday through the weekend it is in Scorpio – play time with your passions.

Mercury (communication and knowledge) is in Taurus (grounding) and in retrograde – this period is useful to reflect, review and redo especially within the aspects of how to be calm and focused as you convey your thoughts and intentions.

Venus (beauty and harmony) is in Gemini.  Last week to dive into gratitude and working with the positive nurturing aspects of all your relationships (this includes your relationships with all living things and your environment).  Mars (action) is in Cancer.  It is best to let your heart run the show until May 21st.  However, at its worst we can get emotionally charged and overreact, and at its best we can consciously act on what our heart needs.

Jupiter (growth) is in Aries until May 16th – great for manifestation, expansion, and action.  And Saturn (structures) is in its two-year stint in Pisces to make sure our structures are elastic and responsive to change.  The challenge is our boundaries can get too bendy or have gaps, so we need to work on being flexible but resilient, think like bamboo or jellyfish.

And lastly Pluto (the hidden, death, wealth, and shadow) is in Aquarius until June 11th, giving us a taste of what the next 20 years will bring.  Pluto is considered a generational planet and takes its time doling out its challenges and treasures.   Pluto is bouncing back and forth from capitalistic Capricorn to socialistic Aquarius, so politics, technology and societal whims should be interesting to watch during this time.

***Signs with an * it is a big week for you.  Taurus this is a perfect time to get an Astrological Tarot Reading  for your coming year.  And Virgo it is your halfway mark for your birth year, so if you need a Planetary Reading  for a check in now is the time. and I have a new tip jar if you want to leave a gratuity for the weekly forecasts.

Ten of Air – It seems the friend-connecting you did last week will be valuable, for you will need your friends in dealing with the potential dramas this week.  Whether that is your tendency right now to engage with negative thoughts or if the world around you is throwing spears and curve balls, your friends will help you avoid the worst-case scenarios.

Taurus
Kenojuak Ashevak

*Empress –The Muse of Life is an energy that you all work with your entire lifetime.  Also, it makes sense that it not only comes up during your birth month but also as we collectively experience an eclipse in the Scorpio/Taurus pairing, May 5th and prepare for Jupiter’s move into Taurus on May 16th.  Life is defined by the capacity for growth, reaction to stimulimetabolismenergy transformation, and reproduction.  Your work for this week, maybe throughout this year, is to identify those capacities in yourself, and the how and why you walk on this earth while doing them.  And then how you plan to nurture those qualities to further abundant growth in yourself and within your reach into the world.

Gemini
Kenojuak Ashevak

*Sun – The Muse of Optimism would like you to radiate some of this energy into the world.  You all are one of the most charismatic signs in the zodiac and this muse would like you to use this superpower this week.  Whether that is a smile or a compliment to a random people you encounter or a deep dive of support to someone close, this week is made for you to shine by illuminating the good in others.

Queen of Air – The Muse of Perceptivity comes to help you create ease in your plans and is perfectly aligned with Mercury in retrograde. She reminds you that details and cleverness are the focus this week.  So, mottos like the “devil is in the details” and “work smarter not harder” should be in the forefront of your revisions in planning the future.

Leo
Kenojuak Ashevak

Nine of Air – Ok this week has a bump in the road potential stopping the past two weeks’ energy pushing Adventure.  That bump is your worry and anxiety.  The Muse of Unease advises  to switch “I am worried about this negative outcome” to “I hope for this positive outcome.”  When you think about it, useful worrying helps us prepare for bumps in the road by deconstruction, and beneficial hoping helps us prepare for bumps in the road but by construction.  When done properly they both want the same thing, a positive outcome.  So why not prepare this week through a hopeful outlook and lay down the swords of worry.

Virgo
Kenojuak Ashevak

Page of Earth – This week is abundant for learning opportunities.  The Muse of Knowledge will point out areas of study for you.  Whether that is a new skill set you need to integrate or an area of ignorance you find that needs updating, this week is meant for learning.

Libra

*Fool – The Muse of New is wanting you to branch out and do something that you have never done before.  Whether to take an art or dance class, try a new restaurant or go on a spontaneous adventure, this muse wants you to expand your horizons.

Scorpio
Kenojuak Ashevak

*Hanged One – Last week the Muse of Momentum wanted you to spend this retrograde period in contemplation of what needs changing that only you can do and then make a road map to get there.  Self-reliance, a destination, and ambition are the key elements that you need to muster.  Now the Muse of Upside-down wants you to flip some of your ideas on their head to see them from an alternative perspective.  She counsels by doing so you will get a more holistic picture.  This week put things on hold or postponed until after May 16th .  So you can take the time you need to see things from “both sides of the coin”.

Sagittarius
Kenojuak Ashevak

Eight of Fire – This week is full of messages.  Since Mercury is in retrograde, the challenge is they are not all for you.  And the ones for you are also jumbled or missing content.  So, the muses advise to take your time with sorting out the ones for you and hold on answering them.  For as the week progresses more information can come in to change your perspective or perception.

Capricorn
Kenojuak Ashevak

Two of Water – The Muse of Love is here to get you to find time and slow down to hang with your significant other(s).  When this muse comes, she does so because your intimacy cup needs sustenance.  Reciprocity of emotions and daydreams need to be exchanged to integrate more love and hope into your future.

Aquarius
Kenojuak Ashevak

Six of Water – During this retrograde time of review and revise the Muse of Memories would like you to recollect what brought you joy and fulfillment from your past.  Then she challenges you to make plans on how to create the same feelings without recreating those past events.   So, this is an exercise in seeing the arc and maturation of your emotional fulfillment.  And how to keep it evolving and growing.

Pisces
Kenojuak Ashevak

Three of Air – The Muse of Breakthroughs would like you to spend this retrograde week looking to heal, at most, three wounds from the past.  She does this by setting up scenarios that trigger a heartache response.  If you feel sad or angry, these are the areas she would like you to do a deep dive on.  This is not to meant to have you relive it, but you do need to still work on healing it.

Tarot and Art Forecast for Week of May 8, 2022

Mary Cassatt
Mary Cassatt, Mother’s Kiss, 1890-1891; Drypoint and aquatint on paper, 13 3/4 x 9 in.; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Gift of John and Linda Comstock in loving memory of Abigail Pearson Van Vleck; Photo by Lee Stalsworth

This week I highlight the art of Mary Cassatt, painter and print maker.  She studied and showed her work in Europe in the late 1800’s.  And in 1877 was invited by Degas to join a group of independent artists, that became known as the Impressionists.  Cassatt was the only America to officially join the group.  During this time, she revised her technique, composition, and use of color.  She began to experiment with printmaking especially influenced by Japanese artisans.

Her subjects were taken from her life as a woman: her family, the theater and opera.  These were not the standard sitting portraits which she was also known for but showed her interest in figure compositions and movement.  However, her study of the relationship and everyday experiences of mother and child brought in an emotional quality to her paintings. She entices the viewer to reminisce our own experiences as a child and/or a caregiver.  A gentle touch, arms embracing you, sharing intimate moments of care.

Mother’s Day is not only a moment to honor our mothers, but also a day to honor nurturing.   Nurture is defined “as the process of caring for and encouraging the growth or development of someone or something.”  Whether you have children, are a mother, have a mother or none of the above, nurturing is a verb that needs strengthening in this world right now.

Your Pondering: How do you nurture for yourself and in your world?

Solar System Highlights

The Moon starts this week in Virgo – clean and organize your workspace to begin the week.  Then it moves into Libra on the 12th – relationships and balance are highlighted.  Then on Saturday it moves into Scorpio – great for imbibing in your passions.  Mercury is in Gemini it home sign, so conversations and knowledge are highlighted.  However, it turns retrograde on May 10th so from then on review, reflect and revise until June 3rd.  If you must start a project or have a deep conversation, remember patience is key during this time.  Venus (beauty and harmony) is in Aries (action and chaos).   So, Mars and Venus stop working with each other again until the end of month.  Mars (action) is still in Piscesian dream land while Venus wants to get going and see action steps.  Lesson in patience and compromise are still big this week.  Also, Jupiter moves into Aries on May 10th.  So, expansion and growth go from dreams to reality.   And lastly, Saturn remains in Aquarius for all of 2022 – so innovating and upping your game is the focus for this year.

P.S. Signs with an * it is a big week for you.  Taurus this is a perfect time to get an Astrological Tarot Reading for your coming year.  And Scorpio it is your halfway mark for your birth year, so if you need a Planetary Reading for a check-in, now is the time.

Pisces

*Temperance – The Muse of Harmony is here to help you sort through this week.  Harmony is defined “as pleasing arrangement of parts.” This can be as simple as playing with new spices in your food, working with different color combinations with your wardrobe, or as complicated as rearranging the priorities in your life.   So, this week as you view your surroundings how can you combine and arrange them to be more pleasing to your eye as well as your soul?

Tarot and Art Forecast for Week of April 24, 2022

Mabel Allington Royds
Water Lilies Mabel Allington Royds

The artist this week is Mabel Allington Royds.  Royds is painter and printmaker.  She began creating color woodcuts using the traditional Japanese ukiyo-e printmaking process.  However, instead of a three-person collaboration on a print (artist, artisan, printer), she learned from Frank M. Fletcher how to do all three stages independently.  Royds innovated the technique further by applying pigment to the woodcuts by paintbrush rather than using a roller. And instead of using more expensive cherrywood blocks she bought six-penny pastry boards from Woolworth’s.  And as her technique evolved, in this multi-block process, she began omitting the key board (often the first step in the printing process that establishes and prints the outlines of the piece).  This allowed for the colors to merge in a more painterly fashion.  She preferred to produce prints as people wanted them, adding even more variation and uniqueness to each print.

The pondering for the week:  If you outline every aspect of your life are you missing the possibilities of spontaneous or experimental creation? So practice coloring without lines.

Solar System Highlights

There is a solar eclipse on April 30th in Taurus. Things can slow down around this time lucky it’s on the weekend.  The Moon starts this week in Pisces – daydreaming is easy but maybe not so great if you have a lot of work to get done.  Then it moves into Aries on the 27th – great time to power through the work week and make up for lost time at the beginning.  Then on Friday it moves into Taurus – great for family, gardening and getting out into nature.  Mercury is in Taurus until the weekend, so it moves from getting to the root of conversation and grounding relationships through dialogue to a freer flowing conversation.   Mars is in Pisces with Venus.  So, these two are working with each other again.  Mars by having you work with your intuition to create movement, and Venus wanting us to create more beauty and harmony in our environment and relationships.  Jupiter is in Pisces until May 10th; this aspect is dreamy and holds opportunity and luck.  And lastly, Saturn remains in Aquarius for all of 2022 – so innovating and upping your game is the focus again for another year.

P.S. Signs with an * it is a big week for you.  Taurus this is a perfect time to get an Astrological Tarot Reading for your coming year.  And Scorpio it is your halfway mark for your birth year, so if you need a Planetary Reading for a check-in, now is the time.

May light be on you, around you, and within you,
