Tarot and Art Forecast for Week of March 27, 2022

Helen Pashgian
Accession Number Helen Pashgian

And the last artist centering on this month’s theme of light is  Helen Pashgian.  Pashgian is one of the pioneers of the Light and Space movement in California in the 1960’s and is closing her latest show in Santa Fe today.  She shapes industrial epoxies, plastics and resins into columns, disks, and spheres.  Each piece is semi translucent. Pashgian has spent the last 60 years perfecting her materials and method.

Her new largest piece is 5ft multicolored disk where she manipulates its illumination.  Her controlled lightening has the disk’s outer color fade, leaving the viewer with the center color which also then begins to contract and vanish.  It reminds us of why we are so entranced with watching sunsets and sunrises.  As the viewer interacts with each of her pieces, Pashgian plays with how our eyes discover what is visible and invisible and how important light is in that process of discovery.

Your pondering this week is more of an exercise.  Spend time in your environments watching light.  And I leave you with this quote from Lenora Carrington, a surrealist painter.  “Dawn is the time when nothing breathes, the hour of silence.  Everything is transfixed, only the light moves.”

Solar System highlights

The Moon starts in Aquarius – investigate the arts, read a book expand your mind.  By Tuesday it moves into Pisces – a day dreamy way to start the week. On Thursday it goes into Aries to help us finish up projects for the work week.  Then for Saturday the Moon is in Taurus where it is exalted. Spend the week as you like near home or visiting local food/ gardening centers.

Mercury moves into Aries today – great for hashing out ideas but watch bossy tones. Mars (action) is in Aquarius (innovation, perspective, and long-term thinking). This is a period to experiment with innovations, but if you are trying to get something done quickly, be aware that for the next couple of weeks there might be more talking then doing.  Venus (beauty, relationships) is also in Aquarius this can be a great time to do long term planning with your significant others or dabble in creative endeavors with them.  But still remember not to push for solutions or set goals in stone – brainstorming is key.   Jupiter is in Pisces until May; this aspect is dreamy and holds opportunity and luck.  And lastly, Saturn remains in Aquarius for all of 2022 – so innovating and upping your game is the focus again for another year.

P.S. Signs with an * it is a big week for you.  Aries this is a perfect time to get an Astrological Tarot Reading for your coming year.  And Libra it is your halfway mark for your birth year, so if you need a Planetary Reading for a check-in, now is the time.

May light be on you, around you, and within you,

Nina

Tarotcast for week of Dec. 11, 2016

Photo by Lida Xing, courtesy National Geographic.

I like synchronicity in my life. It leads to my some pretty fantastical places and ponderings. This past week it has been around dinosaurs. Above is a picture of feathers that cover part of a dinosaur’s tail preserved in amber around 99 million years ago. Lida Xing found it in a market in Myanmar(Burma). A study done by Lida Xing and colleagues from Canada and the UK recently micro-CT scan on this piece to reveal how these delicate feathers cover a dinosaurs spine. Even though scientists have found other impressions of feathers in fossils and amber, this is the first time to find feathers attached to the spine they came from. (Current Biology)

Then I read an article in the August issue of the Smithsonian about notorious aristocrat from Transylvania, Baron Franz Nopsca von Felso-Szilvas. One of his many contributions at the turn of 1900’s was that he was the first to theorize that birds were descend from dinosaurs. Later while “rabbit holing” down the internet I found my favorite artist for this week, Darren Pearson. He uses long-exposure photography to get these light paintings of dinosaurs and other cool images.

Not sure if these synchronistic stumblings are profoundly connected, except in the fact that they are all real cool things that people do. And that life is a continuum that connects time and space.

P.S. If you need a stocking stuffer or “woo woo” holiday gift, I do gift certificates for my tarot readings. And, I have added links at the bottom for holiday gift ideas from a few artists and shops I love.

P.P.S Remember, when signs have * it’s a big week for you. I have added photos from artist Darren Pearson.

Aries – Ten of Cups – The Ten of Cups’ lessons are about celebrating and being joyful. This is a week to keep that energy flowing. Take in the joy by driving to see the neighbor’s Christmas lights. Then spread the love out by baking cookies and give them to your postman. This card is challenging you to enjoy this season and then spread it around. Remember, love is a multiplier not a divider.

Taurus – Page of Wands – The Page of Wands represents enthusiasm in the tarot deck. This week this Page is challenging you to do things that spark your passion. This is a week of experimentation and fun. Remember when you were a kid having a blast and spending most of the day building a fort, and then ended up playing in it for only an hour more because it stopped being fun? Enthusiasm is way more fun when you are building something. Have at it.

Tarotcast week of August 21, 2016

Pulse room Rafael Lozano Hemmer

I wanted to bring you all some energy in the form of light to celebrate the last day of Leo. One thing that has always fascinated me about light was color. When I was very young my first science fair experiment was the effect of different colored lights on plant growth.  Ever since then I have been fascinated with – do we actually see color in the same way and the effect of color and light on our moods.

The art above is Pulse Room by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. It is an array of incandescent light bulbs that flash at the exact rate of the participant’s heart when he or she holds the interface. How cool that something that is so personal is brought to light. In your tartocasts are more artists that use light and color in cool ways. I find this art form an interesting twist since all art is dependent upon light and the mixture of color and these artists bring to light how those simple components of art can still move us.

P.S. Remember, when signs have * it’s a big week for you.

Olafur Eliasson Your rainbow panoramaAries – Nine of Cups – Now that last week’s challenge to build a simpler and more balanced solution is over. You have a week to tie up looses ends and contemplate your next move. The challenge with the Nine of Cups is to balance your “work life” with your “play life.” Even if you love your work, you have got to give your mind a break to reset. Night-Sky-Saturn-North-from-Earth Angela BullochTaurus – Eight of Pentacles – The Eight of Pentacles heralds another busy week for you, the last couple of weeks were about asking for help. This week you have a choice to collaborate or not. But I recommend trying to find some time alone to improve your skills. The Eight of Pentacles’ challenge is to improve a technique you need at work. For artists it can look like working on your sketching skills, for others it will be learning something new on computer or for teachers it can be learning a new way to teach fractions.
