Tarotcast for Week of September 17, 2017

Friedrich Schroder Sonnenstern Outsider Art

The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as a painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. The artwork above is by Friedrich Schroder Sonnenstern. He is a representative of Outsider Art or Art Brut. Outsider Art is art done by self taught art makers who have had no contact with the mainstream art world. Jean Dubuffet collected and brought this “raw art” into the mainstream art world and called it the Collection de l’art brut, which is now housed in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Outsider art now encompasses a variety of art forms like Folk Art, Visionary Art, Marginal Art, Naive Art, and Visionary Environments. It is interesting that even though the definition of art is all encompassing. We still try to categorize it, so we can push against the category that becomes the new form and to once again color outside the lines.

P.S. Remember, signs with * it’s a big week for you. I have attached works of Friedrich which may or may not define your card.

Aries – Four of Wands – The Four of Wands’ lessons are around the paradox of feeling at home while feeling your freedom. This is the challenge of this card feeling at home with your decisions, your life, especially when they are unorthodox at least in the eyes of others. This week work on feeling comfortable and proud when you let your freak flag fly.

Taurus – Ace of Wands – The Ace of Wands proclaims this is a great week to start projects, explore new places, and follow your passions. The only challenge is to be aware that all this energy and enthusiasm you have could plow over the people around you. Remember to share your empathy along with your passion this week.

*Gemini – High Priestess  – The High Priestess’ lessons are around realizing the potential in the world around you. This week take time to reevaluate your goal in life or a project. This card usually shows up when one needs a deeper perspective on what is going on. Your only challenge with this card is not to lose yourself or your goals in your analysis.   Make sure you come out of your studies at least for a coffee break or to touch base with a friend.

Cancer – Four of Cups – The Four of Cups continues to challenge you to shake off your worries about outcomes and experiment.   This card specifically challenges you see the positive in your life- not only to look for the new opportunities that are out there but also to appreciate the positives that exist right now. Let go of your worries and envision what could go right.

Leo – King of Pentacles – The King of Pentacles knows how to balance work with enjoyment. Normally we would say play but this King is asking you to work hard and then relax. The challenge this week is to do the best you can at work and then practice the art unwinding once you get home. If it is having a beer on the porch or taking a bath, the point being is to be pleased with what you did today and then celebrate a job well done.

Virgo -Knight of Cups – Last week, the Wheel of Fortune gave you the opportunity to change your fortune by making a small change in your life. This week, the Knight of Cups is asking you to keep the momentum going. Don’t lose heart or get distracted by emotions. Your change in fortune takes time. Be patient, be resilient.   Things are shifting even though they might feel like they are doing it at a snail’s pace.

Libra – Ten of Wands – So the past three weeks has had an all or nothing pace to it. This week is no exception though it is more all than nothing, so your challenge is lighten your load. You only have to put one thing off to the side. And that tiny bit of relief will get you through the week.

Scorpio – Ace of Swords and Knight of Cups – This week is all about new ways of communicating your emotions. Aces mean new beginnings, swords are ways of communicating or thoughts, and the Knight of Cups is how you express yourself emotionally. Your challenge is to get better at communicating your emotions to those that love you. Hint: try slowing down and focusing on one emotion at a time.

Sagittarius – Six of Cups – The Six of Cups advises you that a key to your future lies in your past. Get out your photo album, go through all those pictures on your phone, or make time to reconnect with friends from the past. Reminiscing is your key to filling your emotional cup while helping you unlock a treasure for use in the future.

Capricorn – Five of Swords – The Five of Swords’ lessons are around ego and how it relates to defeat/winning. This card challenges the why behind what we do. When we do things to feed the ego, we tend to not think of others but also ultimately not stick to our integrity. This week your exercise is to examine the why behind your decisions and see if you can’t raise your everyday moral bar.

*Aquarius – The Devil – The Devil’s lessons are about looking at what chains you or holds you back. The big challenge with the Devil is about seeing that you have choices and being okay with the ones you have made. This can look as simple as choosing a different route to work and ended up late to a meeting. However, since you went over all your points you feel more prepared for the meeting once you get there. Ultimately, you find you are not chained. You hold the keys of choice and a belief in yourself to make the right decisions for you.

*Pisces – Magician – The Magician’s lesson is you have all the tools and energy that you need. The challenge is where to focus it and then to stay focus. The big lesson with the Magician is taking things to completion or as far as you can. This week your goal is to do it. Remember that in science most discovers were a series of mistakes and failed experiments for something else.

May light be on you, around you, and within you,

Nina
