Tarot and Art Forecast for Week of Feb 14, 2021

Happy Love day! Single or Partnered this day is meant to celebrate Love. Love is desperately need in this world right now. Self – Love as well as Love for Gaia and all her inhabitants. When you step back, it’s pretty magical and amazing.

Onto the planets – Almost all of 2021 (except for mid-August to September) Saturn and Uranus are challenging each other. However, on February 17^th, the first of three, Saturn is exactly square with Uranus. This is boundary loving Saturn challenging freedom loving Uranus. But the intriguing thing is Saturn is in progressive Aquarius and Uranus is in conservative Taurus.

What this means is all of 2021 society as a whole and personally if it effects your natal chart will be dealing with testing our need to be free and innovative versus our habits, structures, and stability. Ideally the best way to work with this energy is striking a balance between the old structures and the new innovations. Setbacks are usually temporary and lead to new creative paths if you do not fall prey to frustration. This year is not about revolution but reinvention. Also, Mercury is still in retrograde until February 18^th, so continued to Review, Reflect and Revise until then.

Now to this week’s artist, Brooke Didonato (@brookedidonato). Didonato portraits feel incredible relevant as we deal with being homebound as a collective, and the push and pull of freedom and stability. Her art is whimsical vignettes of self-exploration in the spaces we live and in our intimate relationships. She has her viewers pondering about the trappings of societal self in our personal spaces as well as the entangling though life giving elements of our intimate relationships.

We spent 2020 facing who we are in a more intimate world. We cannot travel, party, or socialize to escape ourselves. In fact, many of us brought our outer world to our intimate space. These interactions hopefully made you more aware of what makes you tick or have ticks. Whether you have mastered baking or woodcraft, or now cannot eat another loaf of bread and have a partial constructed table. This year has been a lesson on learning what our inner boundaries, needs and wants. Where either we have run up against or finally feel comfortable in our nests.

The planets: Mercury is retrograde until February 18^th. This is a great time to Review, Reflect and Revise. There is a new Moon in Aquarius on the 11^th, a great time to daydream the future and innovatations.

Now to this week’s artist, Kilian Schoenberger (@kilianschoenberger). Schoenberger’s hashtag is fogpants and for good reason. His portrait of this atmospheric phenomena is otherworldly. Each photograph seems staged for a fairytale or period piece horror flick. His artistic ability of capturing sunlight, fog and snow has us entering another world, where time and space extends into the ether.

Fog forms when something warm and moist meets something cold. The most common is radiation fog when the Earth radiates stored heat into the night’s cool air. This fog sits and doesn’t move. Advection fog is driven by warm moist air across cold surfaces like snow or water, and it flows. Ultimately fog is a cloud on the ground. In Schoenberger’s depiction of this phenomena, it becomes less of an embodiment of the unknown. A place where we can lose our way or where scary monsters lurk. Instead, he invites us to enter a dimension where we can walk on clouds.

Happy Birthday month Aquarius!

This week’s artist is Toni Frissell. Frissell was not formal trained as a photographer, but she used this to her advantage. She never learned to properly light indoors, so she opted for outdoor shoots and often preferred shooting at angles other than straight on. During World War II she volunteered for the American Red Cross and The Air Force. She took thousands of photos of woman in service, front-line soldiers African American Fighter Pilots and orphaned children. After WWII she became famous for her sporty and outdoor fashion photography and informal portraits for Vogue and Harpers Bazar. She focused on showing a more natural side of couture and woman. That intersection that woman at the time were navigating the couture perfect woman and the woman of the real show in her the angle she chooses.

The above photo was from a fashion shoot taken by Frissell in 1947 at Weeki Wachee, Florida. Around the time the mermaid attraction opened its doors. Weeki Wachee named by the Seminole Indians’ means little spring or winding river. The spring itself is the deepest spring in the US. It bubbles up 117 million gallons of fresh water at a cool 74-degree each day. The spring filtering through its deep caverns create a current of water that can run as strong as five miles and hour or knock off a diver’s mask. The river flows west for 12 miles until it meets up with the Gulf of Mexico. This area is a natural reserve and yes is where mermaids still swim.

Happy birth-month Sagittarius!

The artist this week is Claire Rosen. Her photography styling leans heavily on the Renaissance and Dutch master painters. This series Fantastical Feasts is a playful rendition of the DaVinci’s Last Supper and the Pierre Subleyras The Feast in the House of Simon. Rosen nudges the human viewer to ponder on ecology and our similarities and difference as living beings. Her subjects are animals from a variety of habitats which she juxtaposes into human lavish environments or situations. This series of photographs focus on the banquet instead of a quaint meal. Banquets are elaborate, colorful, lavish presentations. Historically the concept of feasts goes back to the Homer’s Iliad where the Gods and kings entertained each other. These lavish occasions are now the center focus to many holiday traditions for us common folk.

We are coming up to a variety of countries’ holidays and this week in the Americas we celebrate Thanksgiving. This holiday season will be different for many of us. We may not be able to create the lavish banquets of 2019. But we can have exquisitely intimate gatherings. That might be a bit more honest, joyful, and less stressful events. For many of us this might be a first. And what a wonderful anomaly this could be. No stressful holiday travels, cooking or no rush buying for black Friday. If you are alive and have food on the table, you have something to be grateful for. So, ponder on what you are thankful for this week and somehow feed it. Send nurses flowers, donuts to EMT facility, or write love letters to your friends and family. A banquet of love can go a long way.

Tarot and Art Forecast for Week of Nov. 15 2020

This week’s artist is Irving Penn. He was a photographer, painter, and inventor of the platinum printing process. His style whether portraits or still life often leans towards minimalism and emotes a feeling of rawness. At this unique point in time, our collective experience and personal emotions seem to directly resonate with his series Portraits in a Corner. Where we all are having this vague feeling that something has changed but still finding ourselves isolated in our small section of life possibly feeling restricted. Our reptilian amygdala stressed and fearful. Is it possible that we can switch our mindset to finding the space comforting, a place of intimacy, and a place to engage with ourselves?

Penn started this series in 1948. He pushed two studio flats together to create a sharper than 90-degree angle. The floor covering an old piece of carpet with the detritus of the photography process still on it. As Penn says “a very rich series of pictures resulted. This confinement, surprisingly seemed to comfort people, soothing them. The walls were a surface to lean on or push against. For me, the picture possibilities were interesting: limiting the subjects’ movement seemed to relieve me of part of the problem of holding on to them.” The amazing thing the viewer can see in these portraits is the “character” of the portrayed becomes more defined.

Can we use this this time to lean into our severely defined space? To find more intimacy and realness with our-selves? Imagine if we were more aware and secure with who we are. When it is time to turn the corner into the world again, we would be more prepared with our actions and interactions. More grounded to who we are, more determined with what needs to be done, a better I to contribute to a better We.

Page of Swords – Things are not what they seem on the surface this week. If you need information you are going to have to dig for it. Ace of Cups – The last couple of weeks have been high energy. The muses had you looking at outdated systems that are no longer working. This week’s artist is Anna Agoston. Her mode is macrophotography, but her eye leans towards design, form, and emotions. Agoston takes the us on a Lilliputian trip into an intimate viewing of plant structure.

Much like O’Keefe by taking us close to the subject we lose the concept of the item and begin to see it with a new perspective. We have now lost the common constructs of the subject and are left with our subconscious giving it a new thought form or emotion. As Agoston says “What also compels me is the satisfaction of being able to say precisely what I am feeling. I took a picture of a gingko biloba leaf because I loved the simplicity in form, the shape, and the way it hung from the branch. I felt grace and sensuality and needed to convey that. I felt satisfied when I was able to express this with a picture.”

The world is feeling a lot right now, and a lot of it is in the form of suffering. This might lead us to give up on hope and beauty. Agoston’s art reminds us if we sit still, take time and focus more intimately, we can find all our emotions in these smaller moments. And they all have a place or function in the grand design.

Tarot and Art Forecast for Week of Oct. 4, 2020

First, I want to thank all of you for reading my musings on art, tarot, and a bit of science. I am going into my 6^th year with this blog, and I so appreciate your support and feedback throughout the years. At times I feel as if I am writing into the void, so your echoes back help me see that this is fulfilling its purpose of entertainment and hopefully some enlightenment and ease. You all are few but mighty in spirit, love and appreciated!

And now to start off the month of spook, this week’s artist is Stella Snead. She is a surrealist painter, photographer, and collage artist. She and her father struggled with depression. Though she has few memories of her father the viewer can see her exploration of her own psychology through her artwork. Surrealism has a natural affinity towards the study of the subconscious.

Her early paintings all seemed set in a nocturnal landscape of the dreaming mind. Her depression stopped her from painting in her mid-life, but travel and photography became the mode and medium during her darker times. She began collaging her mental ponderings. By her 70’s she returned to painting and revisited images she had done in her earlier years. Themes you often see in her musings are nature’s powerful forces: volcanos, tornados geysers, containment, and using perspective to draw the eye out of the picture. These techniques and images are keys to propelling the viewer into unknown waters. But also, the opportunity that once we have traversed the unknown it becomes know, less scary and possibly a brighter freer place than what we have known.

*Hanged Man – This week’s energy surrounds the concept of insightful exposure. What is driving you crazy or blocking you needs to be reexamined. However, this investigation must be done from a new perspective. You are stuck because your life stories are being played out through a lens of an old perception. To become more malleable with your thinking let go of awareness and allow your truth to float to the surface. A gestalt is forming to break you out of your stagnation, but you will need to flip and flow your mind in the quiet of reflection without judgement or logical thought.

*Magician – Last week was about ending and cleaning out the debris from last birth year. You still have until mid-November to tie things up. But this week is about creating what you hold as divine. This is your purpose wanting some hang-time with you, so you can start plotting out how this concept will unfold. This muse reminds you that you already have the skills and tools to accomplish what you want to do. The challenge is realizing that those tools can come from other people taking over some of the everyday of your plans. Your energy needs to focus on creating the form and space for your creation to begin to grow, however, there is no need for you to do it all alone.

Six of Swords – This is your winding down month until your birthday and the energy this week helps in this transition. The challenge is that the future is clouded over.
